A. | Completely finished, ready-to-use standard | | |
| We will make you a completely finished, ready-to-use standard, with each chosen
item mounted, polished, carbon coated and electron beam labelled. You will need to go to the
Instructions page to select the type of mount you want and the items you wish to put in it. The individual items can be chosen from any of the standards accessible from the DYOS home page.
These items are then mounted according to the plan you have chosen. They are polished, carbon coated and identifying labels are applied to each one. Naturally DYOS mounts take longer to produce than the "Off-The-Shelf" series, and are more expensive, but you also receive the SPI Supplies
DYOS User's Manual which is
recognized as being the finest in the world. In addition to the information contained in the "Off-The-Shelf" User's Manual, the DYOS User's Manual has a photograph and plan of the mount showing details of each position as seen in the image to the right which shows a custom 0.50 inch diameter mount containing three items. This would be one of our Pin, Disc or Barrel 1/2" diameter mounts which can hold up to 14 items but in this case has only three: 1. Silicon, 2. Manganese, 3. Cobalt.
Some of the items in our collection do not take well to mounting and polishing. This is usually because of their water solubility, such as the halides of the alkali metals. We have adopted the policy not accepting these for mounting, however they can still be obtained in a loose form for you to use as you see fit.
|
| In keeping with policy of SPI Supplies of incorporating a device for calibrating beam currents into each "Off-The-Shelf" mount, we recommend that you should include a Faraday cup as one item in your selection. |

Loose items | | |
| You can purchase individual standard items as loose grains for mounting in your own laboratory.
You will receive one grain large enough to mount with care, and a data sheet. Be aware, however, that because of
scarcity, not all standards are available in the loose form.
