This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated apatite crystals. The identifying etched label, which is a feature of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument. Not only can this be
used as a standard for phosphorus, but the significant amount of fluorine can be detected with most modern X-ray spectrometers, as can the trace concentrations of Rare Earth Elements. This sample comes from Wilberforce, Ontario, Canada.
