Hazardous Items and Air/Sea/Ground Shipment
Shipping services accepting
shipments
U. S. Postal Service
The United States Postal Service absolutely will not accept shipments of
goods containing
designated shipments, to
either domestic or international destinations.
Courier Services
For many years, UPS was very happy to accept shipments to international
destinations. More recently, however, UPS would not accept shipments for
destinations outside the United States. In 2003, UPS again began to accept
shipments to some countries. Like the situation with FedEx, such shipments
are subject to certain excluded countries.
FedEx also accepts shipments for shipment to some international
destinations, but not to other excluded countries.
The list of excluded countries is different for the two courier services,
which is part of the reason we make the choice of carrier in our
flat rate shipping program.
DHL will not allow us to make
shipments to any destination.
Carriage in Personal Luggage on Passenger Air Craft
This is absolutely forbidden. Should you be contemplating the carriage of
any chemicals designated as being "dangerous goods", even if also designated
as
on the SPI website, please do not even
consider it for one moment. It is illegal to do that, you are putting at
risk an entire air craft, and if discovered, subject to fines that are
quite large (potentially thousands of dollars). If we suspect that a
shipment might be going to an address from which the intent would be to
take it on a commercial air craft, we will not accept the order and we
will not make the shipment.
The "good news" is that we here at SPI Supplies are here to help, not make
life difficult for our customers. But we do take very seriously the matter
of the shipment of dangerous goods. If you are a customer outside of the
United States and are facing a shipping charge that is many times larger
than the fob value of the shipment, let us know your situation. Perhaps we
can figure out ways to consolidate shipments. If you are looking to make
other purchases from other vendors in the USA, perhaps we can work with the
other vendor to consolidate your shipment saving you the costs associated
with multiple shipments and customs entries. It is usually quite easy for
us to make the purchase for you from the other vendor(s) and then send to
you, our customer, one consolidated shipment. We do not seek to make a
major profit on such activity, but we do want to recover our costs, both
direct and indirect, that are associated with the shipment of the third
party products.
