The policy simply stated:
The flat rate charge for shipping, handling, and insurance will be $ 61.00 for shipment by UPS
or FedEx (selected by SPI Supplies) to all destinations in Japan, irrespective of the
shipment's weight or commercial value. There could also be included anything that is
designated on the SPI Supplies website as being
.
But excluded would be any shipment that contains any product(s) designated as being
Dangerous Goods without the
designation.
This means that an order that consists of some
tweezers,
TEM grids,
Parafilm®,
and some embedding molds, even some items like silver paint and carbon paint that are
products, could ship under the flat rate program from
SPI Supplies in the USA to any business address in Japan (see important exception below).
But if your order contains as much as a single item (for example, an SPI OK Easy Duster), that
is not
, then it could not be shipped under this program and would
probably have to go via air freight (and at a considerably higher cost).
However, such shipments containing
would be subject to the
special packaging charge, to the degree necessary, to cover the cost of the special packaging
that makes possible the lower cost shipment. And of course, such shipments would be subject
to the special "cold ship" charges should the shipment include a product that is to be shipped
refrigerated (such as L.R. White Resin).
Exceptions:
Keep in mind the following exceptions to the above policy statement:
- Shipments containing dangerous goods that are not described as
are not covered by this program.
- Addresses not considered to be bona fide business addresses by the
carrier (e. g. FedEx or UPS) are subject to a residential address fee.
- The final arbiter as to whether an address is or is not a residential
address is the carrier, that is, UPS or FedEx. Generally speaking, if one
has sleeping accommodations at the address, or if the property is not
zoned for commercial use, the carrier designates such an address as a
"residential" address.
Note that this program covers only the regular products sold by SPI Supplies and under no circumstances will we make such shipments for others.
The benefit to the SPI Supplies customer in Japan:
Customers of SPI Supplies in Japan are able to estimate to the penny the actual credit card
amount (or prepay amount to be wired into our bank account) that will be charged to their
credit card for a credit card purchase when ordering from Japan. There is no need to waste
time getting a "quote" since all of the information necessary to calculate a total CIF amount
will be available to the customer at the time the order is placed. So just decide what you want
to order, the fob prices are on the website, add $61.00 and that is the total price to you
(except of course for customs duties, VAT, and any other local taxes, if applicable, that are
paid on the buyer's end.
