The policy simply stated:
The flat rate charge for shipping, handling, and insurance will be $ 99.00 for shipment
by UPS or FedEx (selected by SPI Supplies) to all destinations in India, irrespective
of the shipment's weight or commercial value. But excluded would be any shipment that
contains any product(s) designated as being Dangerous Goods. This would also mean that
we can not ship under this flat rate program any product identified as being
.
But now there is good news: We have just received word that our application to ship
has been partially approved: We now can make
shipments to the
airports of Mumbai or Delhi but not beyond the airport. This means that the
customer must use their own customs broker to clear the shipment, the courier
service can not clear such shipments. So while the customer does have the added
cost of having to use their own customs broker to clear the shipment, in many
instances, this is more than justified because of the now much lower shipping
costs for the shipment itself
This means that an order that consists of some
tweezers,
TEM grids,
Parafilm®,
and some embedding molds, could ship under the flat rate program from SPI Supplies in the
USA to any business address in India (see additional important exceptions below). But if your order
contains as much as a single "Dangerous Goods" item (for example, an SPI
OK Easy Duster™), then it could not be shipped under this program and would
probably have to go via air freight. However, because of the new exception described above,
products can be shipped to India but only to the airports of Mumbai and Delhi. If the shipping address is
to any point other than these two airports, we can not make such shipments if they contain as much as a
single item that is either
or Dangerous Goods.
And of course, such shipments would be subject to the special "cold ship"
charges should the shipment include a product that is to be shipped refrigerated.
Exceptions:
Keep in mind the following exceptions to the above policy statement:
- Shipments containing dangerous goods that are not described as
are not covered by this program.
- Addresses not considered to be bona fide business addresses by the
carrier (e. g. FedEx or UPS) are subject to a residential address fee.
- The final arbiter as to whether an address is or is not a residential
address is the carrier, that is, UPS or FedEx. Generally speaking, if one
has sleeping accommodations at the address, or if the property is not
zoned for commercial use, the carrier designates such an address as a
"residential" address.
The benefit to the customer:
Customers of SPI Supplies in India are able to estimate almost to the penny the actual
credit card amount that will be charged to their credit card for a credit card purchase
even if ordering from India. There is no need to waste time getting a "quote" since
all of the information necessary to calculate a total CIF amount will be available to
the customer at the time the order is placed. So just decide what you want to order,
the fob prices are on the website, add $99.00 and that is the total price to you
(except of course for customs duties, VAT, and any other local taxes, if applicable,
that are traditionally paid on the buyer's end. Remember that this will "work" only
if there are no Dangerous Goods Dangerous Goods or
products on the order, unless shipped to the airports of either Mumbai or Delhi.
Some of our customers in India have long
requested a flat rate program like this, and we offer it now in response to such customer
requests. Certainly this is saving customers in India considerable money since they can
