The policy simply stated:
The flat rate charge for shipping, handling, and insurance will be $23.00 for ground shipment by
UPS or FedEx ground (selected by SPI Supplies) to all Canadian destinations within or in the
vicinity of major metropolitan areas, irrespective of the shipment's weight or commercial
value. There could also be included anything that is designated on the SPI Supplies website as being
.
But excluded would be any shipment that contains any product(s) designated as being Dangerous Goods.
Note: If you need confirmation that your shipping address is "covered", let us know, and we
will reply back within 24 hours.
This means that an order that consists of some
tweezers,
TEM grids,
Parafilm®,
and some embedding molds, including any
designated items, could ship under the terms of the SPI Flat Rate Program from SPI Supplies in
the USA to any Canadian business address within the covered area (see important exception below).
This means that items such as
SPI Supplies® brand of silver paint or
carbon paint could indeed ship under this
flat-rate program. SPI OK Easy Dusters, which are
normally classified as "dangerous goods", could also ship under this program. But any dangerous
goods products not designated as
would have to be shipped by either air freight or truck, not necessarily hugely expensive, but
the shipment could not be shipped under the SPI Supplies Flat Rate Program.
However, such shipments would be subject to the special
packaging charge, to the degree necessary, to cover the cost of the special packaging that
makes possible the lower cost shipment. And of course, such shipments would be subject to the
special "cold ship" charges should the shipment include a product that is to be shipped
refrigerated.
Exceptions:
Keep in mind the following exceptions to the above policy statement:
- Shipments containing dangerous goods that are not described as
are not covered by this program.
- Addresses not considered to be bona fide business addresses by the
carrier (e. g. FedEx or UPS) are subject to a $12 residential address fee.
- The final arbiter as to whether an address is or is not a residential address is the
carrier, that is, UPS or FedEx. Generally speaking, if one has sleeping accommodations at
the address, or if the property is not zoned for commercial use, the carrier designates such
an address as a "residential" address.
The benefits to our Canadian customers:
Customers of SPI Supplies are able to estimate to the penny the
actual credit card amount that will be charged to their credit card for a
credit card purchase if ordering from Canada. There is no need
to waste time getting a "quote" since all of the information necessary to
calculate a total CIF amount will be available to the customer at the time
the order is placed. So just decide what you want to order, the fob prices
are on the website, add $23.00 and that is the total price to you (except of course
for local Canadian taxes, such as customs duties, which under NAFTA, for US made
goods are almost always zero), GST, and any provincial or other local taxes.
Don't forget the option to "buy Canadian"
The entire SPI Supplies product line can be ordered via our Canadian

Just remember that when ordering from SPI Supplies/CANADA, the "deal"
is a bit different. Many SPI Supplies products can be shipped immediately
from stock being kept locally in Canada. And all prices will be quoted in
CAN $, fob Toronto. In real terms, the prices might appear to be slightly
higher, but remember that you are receiving a genuinely higher value added
service, since SPI Supplies CANADA is serving as your importer of the
shipment into Canada.
But however our customer in Canada wants to do business with SPI Supplies
will be just fine with SPI in the USA as well as SPI Supplies CANADA in
Toronto. If you want to order from SPI in Toronto that is just fine. And if
you wish to order from SPI in the USA that is just fine as well. We try
very hard to always keep front-center that you are our customer and we are
here to serve you, not the other way around!
Made in Canada component of the SPI Supplies product line:

the "Micron" segment of the TEM grid line, and about 75% of the line of SEM aluminum
mounts, to give two examples. SPI Supplies CANADA is a Canadian company,
employs Canadians in Canada and pays taxes in Canada.
