The policy simply stated:
The flat rate charge for shipping, handling, and insurance will be $12.50 for
ground shipment by UPS or FedEx (selected by SPI Supplies) to all USA
destinations in the continental USA, irrespective of the shipment's weight
or commercial value. Included are shipments that include
products
but excluded are shipments that contain dangerous goods.
This means that an order that consists of some tweezers, TEM grids,
Parafilm®, and SPI Supplies silver paint, which does include an
product (e. g. the silver paint) would ship under the flat rate program to
any continental USA business address (see important exception below).
However, such shipments would be subject to the special packaging charge,
to the degree necessary, to cover the cost of the special packaging that makes
possible the lower cost shipment.
Exceptions:
Keep in mind the following exceptions to the above policy statement:
- Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rica, Guam and other USA
locations not a part of the continental USA are not covered.
- Shipments containing dangerous goods that are not described as
are not covered by this program.
- For addresses which the carrier (e. g. FedEx or UPS) does not consider to be bona fide
business addresses, the flat rate is $18.00 not $12.50.
- The final arbiter as to whether an address is or is not a
residential address is the carrier, that is, UPS or FedEx. Generally
speaking, if one has sleeping accommodations at the address, or if the
property is not zoned for commercial use, the carrier designates such an
address as a "residential" address.
United States Postal Service (USPS)
We do not consider the USPS to be one of our preferred shippers
for a number of reasons. But we will make such shipments if so requested by a customer.
However, such shipments will not be done under our flat rate program and the
shipping/insurance charges will be invoiced at cost plus the handling charge,
currently $15.00.
The benefit to the customer:
Customers of SPI Supplies are able to estimate almost to the penny the
actual credit card amount that will be charged to their credit card for a
credit card purchase. There is no need to waste time getting a "quote"
since all of the information necessary to calculate a total CIF amount will
be available to the customer at the time the order is placed.
Our domestic USA customers in the contiguous 48 states have requested a flat rate program like this,
and we offer it now in response to such customer requests. Not only is it saving our customers money,
but it makes ordering much simpler and the final charges much less uncertain. Let us know how the
