Explanation of Hazardous Labels

It surely could be said that "everything leaks" and that is certainly true for vacuum systems. It is never a question of whether there are any leaks, it is only a question of what is the leak rate? And the use of a vacuum leak sealant never reduces that rate to zero, it just reduces that rate to some level lower than it would have been otherwise.

In some instances, however, there can be a catastrophic leak that renders the vacuum system unusable until a critical part can be replaced and the role of the vacuum leak sealant then it not so much to permanently fix the problem but to fix it temporarily so that, for example, an important experiment can be completed on schedule, and in advance of the arrival of any replacement part (e.g. such as a failure in a bellows).

We have an embarrassing admission to make:
The product called Vacseal® for many years has been consider the "Cadillac of vacuum leak sealants" since it worked so well and had the versatility for high temperature bakeouts for use in UHV systems. SPI Supplies has been a major distributor of Vacseal® and we have supplied many workers in high vacuum with this product. However, in the past year, the manufacturing plant that has been producing Vacseal® has had some major problems and there have been no shipments for some months. We leave the product up on the SPI Supplies website because we do fully anticipate that those production problems will eventually be solved, but if an order is place today for either the original Vacseal® or Vacseal® II, we can not give any definite shipping date.

What can be offered instead:
SPI Supplies can offer, at least so long as supplies hold out, our own branded product called SPI Seal-Vac™. It is really the orginal Vacseal repackaged by SPI Supplies and we can certify that it is the same material, but is just repackaged bulk Vacseal® from quart sized cans into small bottles with brush applicator tops.

We can also offer the product called CelvaSeal. It is a silicone based vacuum leak sealant, quite similar in fact to the original Vacseal® but it is clearly a different vacuum leak sealing system. We offer it as an alternative to the original Vacseal® and when it runs out, also to the SPI Seal-Vac™.

The Apiezon® Waxes are also vacuum sealants but should not be used in high vacuum or UHV environments. They are only for sealing leaks for vacuums that are being pumps only with a rotary vane (e. g. "mechanical") pump.
