Fluid vs. Grease? To the first approximation, one can certainly use either the fluid or the grease. The fluid is a better option, if it works, since it eliminates a step in the production process. The reason Santovac 5 fluid can be used, when other diffusion pump fluids can not, is its high viscosity and high surface tension, which means it will not wet the contact surface and, therefore, it will remain on the spot where it is applied.
