Santovac® 5 Lubricants for "O" Ring Lubrication

Both the fluid and the grease have "o"ring lubrication applications

Fluid vs. Grease?

To the first approximation, one can certainly use either the fluid or the grease.

The fluid is a better option, if it works, since it eliminates a step in the production process. The reason Santovac 5 fluid can be used, when other diffusion pump fluids can not, is its high viscosity and high surface tension, which means it will not wet the contact surface and, therefore, it will remain on the spot where it is applied. In many applications in use today, the fluid is the proper choice.
Fluid
With respect to grease applications, in general, a grease is selected in order to maintain a thicker coating or film and to avoid losses that you might get with the use of the fluid. It should be noted that more often than not, in order to determine which approach is going to be better in a specific application, is to set up some kind of a testing procedure, where the same system is run side by side, one receiving the fluid and the other the grease. Then and only then can anyone say with certainly which is the best product for that particular application. Grease
