Q-Compound is a vacuum sealing material but it was not designed for the
sealing of leaks on high or ultra high vacuum systems. For high vacuum
applications, we recommend
Vacseal® High Vacuum Leak Sealant.
The high vacuum characteristics of Q-Compound are quite a bit inferior to
those of Vacseal, however, Q-Compound is very inexpensive, relatively
speaking. Where as Vacseal® exhibits a room temperature vapor pressure of
1x10-12 torr the estimated vapor pressure
for Q-Compound (see below), is only 1 x 10-4
torr.
We realize that no all prospective customers of a vacuum leak sealant need
the high performance properties of the more expensive Vacseal, and that is
why we present both products. We leave the selection of the right vacuum
leak sealant up to our customers. But if you are working with a clean
system operating at high vacuum, we would recommend the Vacseal® over the
Q-Compound.
