Braycote® Vacuum Greases

An entire product range developed to be the solution to vacuum grease problems!

Introduction:

The Braycote greases cover a wide range of characteristics. The series 600, 800 and 1600 product designations are all PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) dispersions in a perfluorinated polyether liquid medium. These products are 100% free of either silicones or any non-fluorinated hydrogens, ensuring maximum chemical inertness as well as high temperature characteristics and resistance to oxidation.

Within a series, the liquid carrier is the same, but changes from series to series. So the liquid phase in Braycote Micronic 803 is slightly different from, for example Braycote 603EF.

We are sometimes asked about just what are the differences between the liquid medium being used in these different series. The liquid used in the 600 series products is a "linear" chain molecule that gives better low temperature performance and better outgassing characteristics. The liquid used in the 800 series products is more of a "branched" chain molecule that exhibits a narrower temperature and outgassing range but is able to sustain higher loads.

The real point is, that like with just about everything in life, with vacuum greases, there are trade offs. For the normal electron microscope applications, we believe the Braycote Micronic 803 is the best selection. It possesses all of the desired vacuum characteristics, including the non- particulating aspects of the "micronic" product.

But for all other applications, let us know what you are seeking and let us be a part of your vacuum grease solution!

We would also like to give some further explanation: Some of the Braycote products have product designations followed by "EF" which means "Environmental Friendly". Several years ago, some of the products that were being produced with so-called "unfriendly" manufacturing methods, were changed so that now all production of such products is being done with a more "green" kind of approach. Those products that do not show the EF designation, are products that were always made using environmental friendly approaches to manufacturing. But the important thing to remember is this: The end product is the same. So for example until about 1995, there was a product called Braycote 603. Today it is available as Braycote 603EF. The manufacturing method is different but the final grease is the same. From the users standpoint, the two greases if used side-by-side would be identical in every way.

For some applications, it is desirable to incorporate into the vacuum grease solution, a rust preventative and those grease that have an "RP" designation after the product number, are that that have had this additive incorporation into the formulation. Such an additive would not, in general, add value to a static "O" ring type application. But it could add value in a situation where moving parts were involved. One should not in general, use the RP version of a formulation unless it is truly needed because some of the other desirable characteristics are reduced slightly.

These are certainly not cheap products, and some of them cost more than $3000 per pound! Don't worry, most do not, but the real point is, this is a very complicated subject, but it is one that we have had nearly thirty years of experience working with vacuum grease applications.

So tell us your needs and requirements and let us propose a solution!
