SPI Swiss High Precision Tweezers, Self Closing
We rely 100% on Made-in-Switzerland tweezers
We offer a selected number of styles in the "self closing" or "negative"
tweezer design. Most users believe this design is far superior to any of
the "locking" styles that are sometimes available. But for those really
needing or wanting a "locking style" tweezer, we recommend going to some
plumbing supply house and for a very small amount of money, purchase a bag
of 100 sink faucet washers that are just a little smaller than the total
surface length of the handles. The washers can literally be rolled up or
rolled down the tweezer handle, producing a "locking" style tweezer.
And not only is this approach far cheaper but you have the full benefit
of a regular tweezer yet also can enjoy the benefit of a "locking" tweezer.
And if the tweezers should get worn out or the tips get bent,
consider the SPI tweezer sharpener.
Why PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coated tweezers?
Be
sure to understand the trade offs and advantages of the different materials
of construction of the SPI Supplies tweezers. For electron microscopy
applications, especially TEM applications using
osmium
tetroxide, the PTFE coating will provide a high level (but not 100%) of
protection of the metal from attack by
osmium tetroxide.
