SPI Tweezer Sharpener

Set up and use instructions

Set up instructions

The SPI #01585-AB Tweezer Sharpener consists of a base plate which holds the sharpening stone and the two tweezer holders, one for "straight" tweezers and another one for "curved" style tweezers. It is shipped fully assembled but not tightened, to protect the sharpening stone.

Before using, tighten the nuts that hold the stone so that the stone is held rigidly in the hinged portion of the base, allowing the spring to press the stone lightly against the tweezers. Two different tweezer holders are provided. One of them holds the tweezer to be resharpened in a rigid position, suitable for dressing curved and angled tweezers, while the other turns the tweezers being sharpened, uniformly dressing the entire tip of straight tweezers. The two holders are fully adjustable to allow different styles of tweezers to be sharpened. The holder with the o-rings attached is the one to be used for "straight" style tweezers which allows the tweezer to rotate as it is being sharpened.

Any purchaser should understand that it is more difficult and time consuming to sharpen non-straight tweezer types.

Use Instructions

Using the tweezer holders:
Unscrew the collet. Loosen the two setscrews. Insert the tweezer into the holder (with the o rings) so that the tips emerge from the collet end. When the tips are aligned properly, tighten the setscrews onto the tweezer flats, replace the collet and tighten the collet.

For other tweezer styles use the second tweezer holder. The collet and setscrews function in the same way. For many of these tweezers, the collet may not be useful and can be removed. This tweezer holder is designed in the same way; however, it does not automatically rotate the tweezer as you are grinding the tips on the stone.

Sharpening Your Tweezers:
Once the tweezer is in position, place the block on the base. Be sure that the tweezer holder and the stone are aligned properly. Slowly slide the tweezer block back and forth along the track, the plastic ends will prevent going too far on either side. For tweezers in the rotating block, the tweezers are turning as the block is slid across the base. For other tweezer types, using the non-rotating block, adjustments will have to be made as the sharpening progresses.

Either the stone or tweezer may need to be realigned after a few passes. For tweezers other than the "straight" types, the tweezers or the stone may need to be adjusted to align the tips properly.

NOTE:
The stone does not require oil. Note that the SPI Supplies tweezer sharpener is not intended for the sharpening of knives.
