SPI "Two-in-One" Easy Duster™ (11 oz)

Safety considerations relative to the use of "duster" products

Spanish

We at SPI Supplies are greatly concerned about the safe use of SPI Supplies purchased products by our customers. We would rather lose a sale than run the risk of putting one of our customers at risk and in harm's way. At the present time, there is one product, referred to generically as "134a". It is 100% nonflammable, will not burn and will not support a flame. Indeed, 134a could be used almost like a fire extinguisher since it could actually smother an open flame.

Is this important for most customers? We believe the answer is "yes". One does have to consider the alternatives and the main one is propellant "152a", by some suppliers called "Formula S". The real question is what the United States Government, Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) does in terms of specification and testing before one can call their duster product "non-flammable". It is called the "Flame Extension Test". Basically if a can be inverted, liquid expelled and lit, the question is whether that flame will be longer than 18" (45.72 cm). And if it is, the product must be labeled as a flammable product. What we believe is important for our customers to know is that a duster product filled with 152a will support a flame nearly up to 18". And that is why it can never be used anywhere where there could be the chance of an electrical spark, such as in an office paper shredder, photocopy machine, live circuitry, and of course, never ever in a laboratory setting. We wish to make this point because some suppliers of duster products describe their 152a products as being "nonflammable" but that is absolutely not correct, unless you are using as your criterion, the passing of the above referenced test, but who wants to be around an 18" flame is an accident should occur?

We know that 152a propellant is a lower cost product than 134a, and that dusters filled with 152a sell generally at lower prices. The SPI "Two-In-One" Duster is filled with 134a is taken into consideration and is therefore slightly higher in price, even after the larger fill (e.g. 11 oz. vs. 8 or 10 oz for most other duster products filled with 134a). But we don't want to put our customers at risk and we don't want them to be injured when using an SPI Supplies product.

This is why dusters with the SPI Supplies name are offered only with 134a, the 100% non-flammable duster product
