Introduction:
All microfiber cleaning cloths can trace their progeny back to the needs of the high tech electronics industry, that is, the need for a wiper product that could be used on delicate surfaces and yet not damage the delicate surface to be cleaned. Traditionally, when surfaces get scratched, it is not the wiper doing the scratching but the hard particles being picked up by the wiper. Because it was later discovered that what makes a fantastic wiper for the electronics industry, also results in a fantastic lens wiper for ordinary reading glasses.

To our knowledge, all commercially available microfiber cloths are a combination of polyester, which is usually 80-85% with the balance being polyamide (e.g. Nylon). Two things distinguish microfiber from more conventional wiping materials:

a) The individual fibers making up the fabric are much thinner, only 1/100 the diameter of a human hair and

b) The cross-sectional shape of the microfiber is more triangular or wedge shaped, rather than being round or oval.

This unique combination of fiber diameter and fiber cross-section can be used either wet or dry, and can be used for applications ranging from high tech precision surfaces to microscope lenses or eye glasses. They can be used either dry or wet with water ,or in the case of flat panel display screens, with isopropyl alcohol.

What makes SPI-Fibe™ microfiber different from all the other microfiber products? The most important single factor is that it has to meet the exacting requirements of the high tech electronics industry. While we can not exactly explain it ourselves, when used dry, it is almost as if the microfibers "suck in" the dirt particles, so that they are not on the surface to act as potential scratch agents. When used wet, either with water or organic solvents such as IPA (isopropyl alcohol), and again for reasons we can not fully explain, there is absolutely no streaking upon drying.

In addition, the special combination of 85% polyester make the SPI-Fibe™ the ideal fiber for what we call "heavy duty" dirt removal and polishing:
Chrome automotive and motor cycle wheels.

Applications:
Use on all scientific equipment, optical prisms, mirrors and glass surfaces, chrome, computers and especially flat panel monitors (using IPA). For use on flat panel displays, never use dry, always use with IPA. And the miracle of it all is that there is absolutely no streaking!

Washability:
Unlike some microfiber products, the SPI Supplies SPI-Fibe™ microfiber cloths are machine-washable and in addition, the SPI-Fibe™ wipers can be laundered as many as 500 washings. So while the cost of the SPI-Fibe™ wipers might at first seem more expensive than the more conventional cotton wipers, the fact that they can be laundered and used over and over again actually reduces their cost to the point where they are in most cases, cheaper.

Lint-free characteristics:
The SPI-Fibe™ Microfiber Cleaning Cloths are indeed lint-free but are not what one would call "clean room compatible". For use in clean rooms, use only SPI-Fibe™ Ultra Microfiber Wipers which has been developed for clean room use. They are more expensive, of course, but they also represent the highest quality microfiber cloth available.

Note when laundering:
Use either cold or warm water using regular laundry detergents, either machine washable or by hand. Do not use any fabric softeners or if machine dried, any "dryer sheets".

Why the different colors:
The SPI-Fibe™ microfiber cloths are available in the following colors: blue, yellow, and maroon. Some users find that they want to use the SPI-Fibe™ microfiber cloths on different surfaces with different types of dirt, so in order to keep from cross-contaminating surfaces, the cloths are selected by color for use on a specific type of surface.

No printing on the cloths:
Most suppliers of microfiber cloth print their company name and identification directly onto the microfiber cloth. However, we have always been concerned about the abrasive nature of the ink pigments on a delicate surface since the additive pigment particle generally have a hardness that would indeed scratch most delicate surfaces. That is why the SPI-Fibe™ microfiber cloths have no printing or advertising. We don't want to sacrifice the quality of the microfiber wiper product in order to enhance our own brand recognition. We would rather be known as the "no name" supplier than increase the risk of damaging one of our customer's delicate surfaces.
