Introduction:

Some not-so-well understood definitions:
Not all balances are of course created equal, and of course, some "read" to more decimal places than others. In order to make it possible for users to communicate unambiguously with one another, or with vendors for that matter, keep in mind the following:

Micro balance:
A balance that "reads" to 6 decimal places to the right of the decimal point. Or putting it another way, a balance that reads to six significant digits to the right of the decimal point. Micro balances are made with a "wind screen" or cabinet around the weighing surface. At the present time, Scientech does not manufacture a micro balance.

Semi-micro balance:
A balance that "reads" to 5 decimal places to the right of the decimal point. All semi-micro balances require a "wind screen" or "cabinet" in order to realize the required precision of the measurements.

Analytical balance:
A balance that "reads" to 4 decimal places to the right of the decimal point. All analytical balances require a "wind screen" or "cabinet" in order to realize the required precision of the measurements.

Semi-analytical balance:
A balance that "reads" 3 (or less) decimal places to the right of the decimal point. Balances in this category are often times referred to as "top loading" balances. Some semi-analytical balances are made with a less effective wind screen and indeed some are manufactured without any wind screen since they really are not needed.

Warranty:
The manufacturer provides a 5 year warranty against defects in manufacturing in North America on all "Zeta" models and a 3 year warranty on all Series 12000 models. For all other countries, there is a two year warranty on all models. However it would certainly be extra ordinary for a unit to fail during the warranty period because of the solid engineering that has been built into all of the balances.
