Vinylec® Resins
Applications
We present here just a "sample" of some of the areas of application for the
Vinylec family of resins:
Wire enamels (coatings):
The first and most extensive application for Vinylec resins was in
electrical insulation for magnet wire and this still remains its major
application. Vinylec is combined with other ingredients, such as phenolic
resins, to produce blends known as "wire enamels". These compositions are
coated onto copper or aluminum wire and cured in ovens at elevated
temperatures to give crosslinked film coatings with outstanding electrical,
physical, and chemical properties. An advantage of the wire enamels based
on Vinylec is the consistent uniformity of the coatings whenever the enamels
are cured. This has made the type of insulation based on Vinylac a leader
in the magnet wire coating field for more than 30 years.
Magnetic Tapes:
Polyvinyl formal is being used increasingly as a binder in magnetic tapes as
well as a surface coating to improve durability.
Adhesives and others:
As a main ingredient for special adhesives, Vinylec is being used in
structural applications such as in the aircraft industry.
