High purity gold coatings for life science and other applications

Introduction:
There are many applications for high quality, gold coated silicon chips which are used as substrates in nano applications, ranging from SEM, AFM and other scanning probe microscopies, cell culture, protein DNA microarrays, and reflectometry. While many laboratories do have the needed electron beam or vacuum evaporator equipment needed to do the gold coatings, very few are set up with a dedicated apparatus, and one that would be free of the contamination present in the typical multi-user facility. It has been established that low level contaminants can interferer with the surface properties and characteristics of cell growth.

Production details of the SPI Supplies Brand of Gold Coated Silicon:
All production is done in electronics industry standard clean room facilities as well as all packaging. It is sealed under clean room conditions and will have been maintained in the package at those same clean room conditions until the time of package opening once in the hands of our customer.

Specifications:
The wafers are new electronics industry standard wafers (no reclaimed or recycled wafers) with 100 orientation.

Chromium adhesion layer: 10 nm
Gold layer: 100 nm by vacuum evaporation
Wafer thickness: 525 痠

Available in three different chip sizes as well as uncut gold coated wafers. We are often times asked about high temperature characteristics, that is, how high in temperature can the chips be taken without the gold coating peeling off. And that temperature, while difficult to pin down, is generally thought to be about 150蚓 and could be stable up to and above 250蚓. If too high of a temperature is used , it is possible for the gold to start deliminating from the surface.

Packaging:
Special packaging to ensure no surface contamination of the gold layer during shipping.

We offer the plain uncut wafers for those requiring unique dimensions and wanting to dice up their own wafers. However, we would anticipate that one could have difficulties dicing up an already gold coated wafer.
