This family of anaglyphic stereo glasses represents the very highest quality when viewing anaglyphic stereo glasses. These are not for those looking for throw-away glasses, of paper construction, because the plastic frame glasses are high quality optical products. And they were developed for the serious professional who has the need to visualize information in three dimensions. Tests have shown that the higher quality acrylic lenses result in images that can be up to 7 times sharper than when viewed with inexpensive gel plastic lenses.

Available in new high technology Red/Cyan:
For many years, red/green seemed to be more popular in North America and Red/Blue outside the USA, and there was always a certain level of confusion with one picking up the wrong color combination for viewing a particular anaglyphic image. This created complications for those distributing these glasses because customers were always ordering the wrong color combination! But the green and blue colors were popular because the color sheet or for the more expensive glasses, the acrylic, was much cheaper because they were produced in very large quantities.

Cyan is the exact "opposite" of red and is composed of half green and half blue. Cyan is always more expensive because of the much smaller production runs of cyan colored acrylic (for the lenses). But this means that anyone who has been using red/green to view their anaglyphic stereo (either full color or monochrome) images will get the very same end result if they were using red/cyan. And similarly, some one using red/blue to view their color or monochrome images would get the very same result if they were using red/cyan. And at the same time, one would eliminate the confusing situation of mixing up glasses with their anaglyphic images.

These glasses would be an excellent choice for viewing anaglyphic stereo information, not only of micrographs, but of any computer generate images as well as normal photographs that have been converted into anaglyphs, either full color or monochrome.

Consequently, that is why these more "up scale" glasses in robust, if not also stylish and certainly more comfortable plastic frames, are offered only as red/cyan; there is no need for the other color combinations.

We are often asked about how easy it is to communicate stereo information contained in electron micrographs. We have therefore started a Table of Examples of Anaglyphic Stereo in Microscopy.
