Introduction:
We have recently acquired a number of original C.M.Taylor Company standard mounts.
No documentation came with these mounts, so we have been forced to recreate the data. Soon after we received each mount a photograph was taken of it and of each of the items contained in it. The history of these mounts,
some might say their "progeny" is directly traceable through the business of
Dr. Taylor in the days when he was preparing the standards
himself and was in charge of their characterization. So far as we know, anyone
who ever knew Dr. Taylor or has used any of the standards produced by his
firm, always considered them to be exactly what they were supposed to be and
were the highest quality and best characterized standards found anywhere.
EDS X-ray spectra of each item, combined with a knowledge of the list of C.M.Taylor standards, have led to the identifications. This painstaking process is recorded in the pages linked below.
The photographs show the the mounts and contents "as found". In general they are in good condition, but they will be cleaned and rebuffed before being sold. However, most of them reveal the original quality of preparation for which these standards were renowned, and which has been well preserved. The CM Taylor identification listed in the table below shows the marking scratched on the side of the mount, and/or on the presentation box. These markings are usually visible in the various photographs of each mount. In the case of the mounts which include the name "KEVEX" we imagine these were intended to be sold to Kevex® users
but never reached the point where the product was commercialized. We
do not want to suggest that these mounts ever had the blessing of Kevex, were
ever approved by Kevex, or were ever a Kevex product.
We are making them available to the microanalytical community, at prices considerably lower than a custom designed standard would cost.
Here is the special deal!
Rather than keep these standards "hidden" and force customers to purchase new
standards, perhaps from other grains of the same standard items, we are
making them available to the worldwide community of microanalysts. We are proud to think of using these last commercial standards of the CM Taylor Company before its demise and liquidation as a living tribute to the contributions of Dr. Taylor.
These are all one-off (one of a kind) and when a specific item is sold, that page will be removed form the website, never to be offered again. They are priced to
sell so that we can clear our stock of these unique items. We don't want to
suggest that some day these unique one-off mounts could become "collectors
items" but at the same time, we do believe them to have some element of
historical significance for the microscopy and microanalysis community.
If you browse through this listing of "one of a kind" standards
manufactured by the Charles M. Taylor Company, you might very well find a combination of items that suit you and at a price that would
represent a real cost savings vs. the purchase of a new standard.
