This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated pollucite crystals.
The identifying etched label, which is a feature
of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument.
Pollucite is the only mineral
which contains significant amounts of the rare element cesium. It
even has a small amount of rubidium, which is not found as a
principal component in any mineral. The Bernic Lake pegmatite is
one of the world's major producers of rare elements like cesium
(Cs), niobium (Nb) and tantalum (Ta).
