The SPI Supplies® Brand Chromium Evaporated on Gold Grid consists of a uniform layer of
chromium evaporated onto a Formvar coated gold grid. The EDS spectrum from a grid bar shows
characteristic x-ray spectra for both chromium and gold (Figure 1). The
EDS spectrum from the center of a grid square will show only the
characteristic spectrum of chromium (Figure 2) unless stray radiation
and/or electrons are exciting the grid bars. In quantitative EDS protocols,
this specimen can be used to assure that the operating conditions of the
analytical electron microscope do not include stray radiation and/or
electrons. Who should consider purchasing this instrument performance
standard? Anyone contemplating the conduct of any quantitative TEM work.
