This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated cuprite crystals. The identifying etched label, which is a feature of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument. This is a good standard for copper
in an oxide matrix, and it is durable as can be seen from its high reflectivity and scratch-free surface. The name, and the chemical symbol for copper, come from the Greek for copper (and Cyprus)- cupros.
