This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated sanidine crystals. The identifying etched label, which is a feature of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument. Sanidine is the potassium rich
member of the felspar series, and this example is from a volcanic occurrence at the famous Hohenfels locality. This is the preferred standard for potassium, though care should be taken to avoid high
electron beam loading to prevent alkali element migration.
Locality: Hohenfels, Germany
