	O	27.08							This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated monazite crystals. The identifying etched label, which is a feature of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument. This phosphate mineral is one of our most popular standards, being in great demand because of its rare earth element content - lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium and neodymium, as well as the radioactive element thorium. The composition has recently been revised in light of new data collected by neutron activation analysis for the heavier REE. The formula works out as (La.23Ce.50Pr.06Nd.13SmEuGdTbDyThCaY)1.00(Si.06P.95)1.01O4.00. Locality: Kulyk Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada
