This is a reflected light micrograph of polished, carbon coated celestite crystals. The identifying etched label, which is a feature of our standards, is invaluable for navigating in an electron beam instrument. Celestite has several cleavages which accounts for the pitted surface on some of the crystals. This is the standard for strontium and can also be used for sulfate sulfur. The name is derived from the celestial blue color of some crystals.
