Standard White Polycarbonate "Track Etch" Membrane Filters

Chose from both SPI-Pore™ and Nuclepore® brands

We are often times asked about taking the PCTE membranes to elevated temperatures. The membranes are described as having an upper temperature limit of use of 140 °C (284 °F) and our recommendation has long been that the membranes not be taken above that temperature.

The polycarbonate itself can indeed melt and we have seen customers who end up plugging the holes by (literally) melting the PCTE. Some customers employ a heat sealing operation, where they are sealing the membrane to itself. And we have heard of instances where the holes have disappeared strictly because the polymer has indeed melted.

Some times we are asked about heating by those who want to change the shape of the membrane. Applying heat in that kind of a situation might not even be necessary but if it was, one would not need very much. Bending or folding the membrane would not change the holes except in the area of the crease.
