SPI Die-Cut Carbon Conductive Double Sided Adhesive Discs
Important information for applications in SEM, XPS, and other analytical methodologies
A few words about the SPI Carbon Adhesive Discs
Just like wine bottles in the wine store from twenty feet away tend to look the same,
so does also the growing assortment of die-cut carbon conductive double sided adhesive
discs that are offered by a variety of sources for use in SEM and other analytical
laboratory settings.
When one does an EDS scan on the SPI adhesive, there are virtually no peaks observed.
We don't want to say nothing is ever observed, surely the SPI discs
would be considered as "clean" and "pure" and free of extraneous peaks as the highest
purity discs available anywhere.
Furthermore, the adhesive layer is just that, a pure adhesive layer, and it does not
have present, at its center, a thin polycarbonate or other polymer layer which very
clearly would greatly reduce the conductivity in the "z" direction vertically through
the adhesive. The composition of the adhesive used in the SPI Carbon Adhesive Discs
is a specially made acrylic for this application and carbon black of a very specific
morphology for this kind of application.
Yet, the SPI discs are priced at levels that are comparable or lower than discs being
offered with significantly interior purities.
