SPI Die-Cut Carbon Conductive Double Sided Adhesive Discs

Instructions for use

Follow these easy-to-use instructions for obtaining the best results with the SPI Carbon Discs:
  1. Cut out the desired size and shape with either a fine scissors or razor blade, being careful not to press, bend or distort the areas in the vicinity of the cut.

  2. There are two release papers, one having been die cut into a circular disc shape and which is white in color, and the other, which is either a pale yellow or light brown in color, is the substrate release paper. For some users, it is more convenient to cut out a square shaped area of the substrate release paper, and then remove the (white) circular disc paper. The removal of the release papers should be slow and uniform, in order to have as an end result, a smooth structureless and featureless surface.

Most users do not bother with the cutting step, and they just "stick down" on the target surface the carbon disc, and after pressing to ensure good adhesion, the second release paper is slowly pulled off.

There is now an exposed sticky tacky surface which should be kept clean since it will act as a magnet for any dust selling out from the environment. Such settled dust can not be blown away with a duster.

  3. This now exposed sticky surface is pressed down on the surface of an SEM mount, with the OD of the mount being as concentric as possible with the OD of the disc itself.

  4. Dry solid samples, either as particulates or as solid pieces can be put onto this sticky tacky surface. While obviously there is some point where a sample could be sufficiently massive that this kind of mounting approach is no longer recommended, most users find the SPI double sided adhesive conductive sheet products to be quite adequate in terms of the tac issue.

Be sure to store the mount surface, while in this sticky state, in a dust free environment.

  5. We strongly recommend cold storage in a refrigerator to extend significantly the shelf life of the product. For storage at room temperature, try to use before the expiration date on the package. For non -SEM applications, irrespective how soon the product will be used, especially when electrical resistance characteristics are to be held constant, we recommend refrigerated storage.
