SPI Supplies® Brand UV Transparent Silicone Embedding Molds
Use with UV curing resins
The SPI Supplies® Brand UV Transparent Silicone Embedding Molds are
formulated with a special silicone formulation that is UV transparent. Since
it lacks the stabilizers that make the maroon SPI silicone embedding molds
chemical and heat resistant, they will most definitely not last as long as
the maroon molds and in some instances, can only be used once or twice.
Some resins, such as L R White™,
require the exclusion of oxygen for the
resin block to properly cure. We have found that the best way to accomplish
the exclusion of oxygen is to (literally) overfill the cavities, and then
place another clear silicone mold directly on top, with its "bottom" in
contact with the "top" of the original mold. Because of the overfilling of
the cavities, capillary action causes the "over fill" literally to "flow"
into the space separating the two molds, with surface tension forces holding
them together, and at the same time, sealing out oxygen.
