Protrain™ Products for Electron Microscopy
Produced by Mr. Steve Chapman, world known expert on the maintenance of EM's
History of Protrain:
Steve Chapman founded the firm Protrain in 1982 after having been intimately involved with
the earliest electron microscopes at the University of Birmingham, England as early as 1964.
After having distinguished himself as the "service engineer's service engineer", by earning
the reputation of being able to fix what others could not, he extended his expertise to cover
all those in Europe with problems no one else could solve.
And because of his thorough technical grasp of column instruments and what they could do, and
what one needed to do to make their own column instrument perform up to stated specifications,
he also became known as a highly successful sales engineer in the UK and was also enlisted to
assist with customers with difficult requirements in the rest of Europe and at times even in
Australia and North America. He had involvement with those designing and building the first
sputter coaters and cryo systems for SEM applications.
He eventually developed a series of courses for the training of new operators and also the
maintenance of SEMs which are given on an invited basis throughout the world. He is also
involved with helping SEM laboratories get ready for ISO 9000 series inspections on a
consultative basis.

Protrain CD courses take the place of texts books and have the added advantage of being updated
once or twice a year. Steve Chapman uses the CD courses during his lectures as he travels around
the world carrying out consultancy and training. The constant use of the courses and adjustments
means that the courses are constantly being updated and are always improving.
