SPI YAG and YAP Single Crystal Scintillators
Some frequently asked questions
This list will forever be a "work in progress". We want to try to
anticipate just about any question one might ask so that we can give
them the answer literally "waiting".
Question 1:
Do these single crystal scintillators really last forever?
Answer:
Nothing in this life is really forever, but you can be sure that an SPI YAG
or YAP scintillator will outlive the life of the microscope it was originally
installed, or SPI will replace the scintillator at no charge! Who else makes
a guarantee like that!
Question 2:
What is the flatness of the surface in terms of fractional wavelength?
Answer:
The flatness, in terms of fractional wavelength is 1/4
standard. We can also provide 1/8 and 1/10
but at successively higher prices.
Question 3:
What is the surface quality, for example, the "scratch" and "dig"?
Answer:
The surface quality is expressed by norm MIL and norm DIN.
Question 4:
I purchased and installed a single crystal scintillator and it has become
contaminated. What should I do and how do I put the scintillator back into
usable form?
Answer:
Just wash the aluminum away with a five minute bath in a 10% NaOH (in water)
solution. Then rinse in distilled water and after drying, apply a new
aluminum coating by vacuum evaporation. If you are not set up to do this
yourself,
contact SPI Supplies and we can do this for you, for a nominal fee.
