SPI YAG Single Crystal Scintillators
Special Hints for Purchasers
For optimum performance, we recommend changing the photomultiplier
when upgrading from P-47 to a YAG.
However, modern photomultiplier tubes
have a sufficiently broad range of sensitivities that the need to do this
is less than it was past years before we had access to today's latest
technology. If you do not plan to change PMT's, but want to take advantage
of the single crystal concept, then consider a
YAP instead of a
YAG. The
coated side is installed so it is always facing the sample. For non-SEM
applications, YAG scintillators are available in specific thicknesses down
to 0.15 mm. Be sure to specify precise thickness requests when ordering.
For normal SEM applications, the standard range of thickness, which is 0.5
to 1 mm is quite acceptable.
