Slide storage is an important topic for those who have large numbers of slides to be stored or archived, not to mention when the slides have to be transported in some kind of compact carrying case. We have developed this selection of plastic slide storage boxes. They are economical and convenient to use. Wood vs. metal for long term storage: For those who are afraid of fire, there is the natural inclination to gravitate toward metal. However, in the heat of a fire, what is inside the box is going to melt anyhow so in a sense it does not matter. Most laboratory fires are "flash" fires, and if stored in a wooden box, the wood acts as an insulator, keeping the content's cool. And because of the flash nature of most lab fires, the box never sees a high enough temperature to ignite.
