MACO Emulsion-Based Photographic Film and Paper Products
Don't think for moment that you have to do without your favorite emulsion film product!
It is no secret that the digital "revolution" is taking the emulsion film
product manufacturers by storm and we all know that there have been massive
product discontinuations by all the world's major film manufacturers
including Agfa, Ilford, Fiji, and Kodak as well as lesser known film
manufacturers as well. While the bulk of anyone's film business was related
to "amateur" film applications, which has long since been supplanted by
digital imaging (which of course does not use any film), for other
applications where expensive and unique scientific and other imaging
instrumentation costing thousands of dollars are involved, the conversion to
digital is not so easy of an option either for technical or economic reasons.
Fortunately for all of us, the Hans O. Mahn & Co. Kg. was organized to
continue the production under license from the original manufacturer various
discontinued films and in other cases, while not exact plug-in substitutes,
the films can be used in place of other discontinued films.
SPI Supplies has been appointed the worldwide distributor (outside of
Germany) for the electron microscope related films and for other MACO film
products, we serve as a distributor on a non-exclusive basis. We don't want
to rush to market prematurely a new MACO film for which we are not yet
geared up to support so the introduction of the various MACO film products
will occur over time. If you want a particular MACO film product that you
don't see, if you have been told of a favorite film now being
discontinued and you want to know what is the MACO equivalent if any, tell
us what you need and we will respond quickly with an answer in terms of
whether we can help you or not.
Chemistries:
In general, all of the MACO films can be processed using similar chemistries
that you have been using previously for the originally used film. There can
be some differences, for example, if in the conversion one switches to an
orthochromatic from a panchromatic film, since the orthochromatic film
contains roughly three times the silver content, one can expect the fixer to
be depleted roughly three times faster.
SPI Supplies will be introducing our own branded chemicals that are designed
to be more optimum for use with the MACO films but perhaps of even greater
importance, the pricing will be drastically lower than the chemicals from
the famous name manufacturers.
