This is the PEAK Model 2000. We believe it to be the very finest enlarger
focusing device available today. Use of the focuser guarantees that there
will be extremely sharp focussing not only at the center of the field but
everywhere in the field. As the manufacturer says: "You will be able to
demonstrate the full performance of your enlarger and obtain pictures of
unparalleled sharpness". After using this in our own darkroom, we believe
that this a true and correct claim.
Construction and Principles of the Focuser
The focuser consists of a mirror loupe and pattern plate which are arranged
as shown to the right. The bottom surface of the pattern plate and the
bottom surface of the focuser are adjusted so that they will be in positions
exactly symmetrical to the mirror. Therefore when the focus of the enlarger
is adjusted to cause the enlarged image of the negative to correctly focus
on the bottom surface of the pattern plate, the enlarged image of the
negative is correctly focussed on the photographic paper, when the focuser
is removed from the paper and the easel.
Even if you place the focuser displaced from right below the optical axis of
the enlarger, as shown here, to the right, there will be no change in the
focus of the enlarger.
