Tacky Dot Array Slides

• This innovative new technology now gives the analyst the ability to rapidly mount particles, saving valuable time. A glass slide is covered by a pattern of fine adhesive uniform diameter "dots" on precisely arranged orthogonal centers. The mounting process can be as simple as dusting the sample on to the slide. However, we strongly recommend the use of the "preparation aids" to ensure the most representative sampling.
• The Tacky Dot Array is suited for 5 to 3000 µm particles. This method gives the analyst the ability to mount large numbers of particles in an ordered array, one particle per dot, with all particles non-touching.
• This new mounting medium simplifies the examination, identification and analysis of the mounted particles. The regularly spaced centers and controlled patterns eliminate the usual random chaos found in normal methods. This enables the analyst to mount single particles in controlled patterns at known locations.
• Particle arrays can be produced with the particles in cross-section. Using the SPI #02394-AB Circle Analytical Mount and the SPI #02395-AB PTFE Block Mount, cross-sections can be produced for later analysis by EDS or WDS. Ordinary metallographic polishing, sometimes followed by a short plasma etching in an SPI Plasma Prep II Plasma Etcher, one can reveal with high contrast the collected particles in a cross-sectional array.

Preparation Aids

1. The 02393-AB Slide Holder contains the particulate material to be sampled between the Tacky Dot Array slide and a blank slide. Dimensions: 76 mm x 89 mm x 6 mm thick.
2. The 02394-AB Circle Analytical Mount, used in conjunction with the SPI # 01300-XX Cold Mount Epoxy Kit or the epoxy mounting material of your choice, produces a 25.4mm diameter cylindrical sample. Dimensions: 89 mm x 76 mm x 6 mm thick.
3. The 02395-AB PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) Block Mount, used in conjunction with the SPI # 01300-XX Cold Mount Epoxy Kit or the epoxy mounting material of your choice, produces a metallographic type mount containing all of the material on the slide and suitable for direct metallographic preparation by final grinding and polishing. Dimensions: 82 mm long x 25.4 mm wide x 54 mm high.
