Section 3: Hazard Identification

Emergency overview:
Eye, skin and respiratory tract irritant. Initial wetting may peat up to the
boiling point of water. Flood with water to cool the material.

Appearance: Tan beads

Flash Point: Not available

Warning! Repeated or prolonged inhalation of crystalline silica in the
form of quartz may cause cancer.

Target Organs: Lungs, eyes, skin

Potential Health Effects

Eye: May cause eye irritation with tearing and reddening.

Skin: May cause irritation. Product will get hot when it first absorbs
water.

Ingestion: Product gets hot when it first adsorbs water, which may result
in burns to moist body tissues if contact is prolonged.

Inhalation: Exposure may cause respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged
or repeated inhalation of crystalline silica in the form of quartz may cause
cancer.

Chronic: Repeated or prolonged inhalation may cause lung injury or
cancer.

Carcinogenicity:
   IARC - Silicon oxide - unclassifiable - Group 3
IARC - Inhaled crystalline silica in the form of quartz - carcinogenic -
          Group 1

NTP - Quartz - Known Carcinogen

ACGIH - Aluminum oxide - Not Classifiable as a Human Carcinogen A4
ACGIH - Quartz - Suspected Human Carcinogen A2

Section 4: First Aid Measures

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least
15 minutes. If eye irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Skin: Wash with soap and copious amounts of water. If skin irritation
persists, seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Drink at least two eight ounce glasses of water and seek
medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek medical
attention.

Notes to Physician: This material is a desiccant and generates heat as
it adsorbes water. The used product can contain material of a hazardous nature,
so identify any adsorbed material. Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section 5: Fire Fighting Measures

General Information:
Non-combustible. However, used material may retain material of a hazardous
nature, so the adsorbed material must be identified to the firefighters. Use
self-contained breathing apparatus and dust impervious protective suit is case
of respirable dust or fumes.

Extinguishing Media:
Non-combustible. Use extinguishing media suitable to the surrounding fire.

Section 6: Accidental Release Measures

General Information: See Section 8 for personal protection needed.

Spills/Leaks: Sweep up spilled product into appropriate container for
disposal. If material has been in contact with a hydrocarbon material, do not
use a vacuum. Avoid creating a dust. Never use spilled product. Dispose of
spilled product in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Section 7: Handling and Storage

Handling: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid dust formation.
Provide electrical ground connection during loading and transfer operations
to avoid static discharge.

Storage: Store in original container in cool, dry area.

Section 8: Exposure Controls and Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Use mechanical ventilation or respiratory
protection to prevent inhalation of product dust.

Exposure Limits:

Chemical Name ACGIH OSHA -PEL TWA, mg/m3
                        mg/m3 Total Dust Respirable Fraction

Notes:
	n/a = not available
The OSHA PEL’s are determined from the percentage of quartz from
airborne samples.

Personal Protective Equipment

Eyes: Chemical safety goggles

Skin: Protective gloves

Clothing: Suitable clothing to prevent prolonged skin contact.

Respirators: Use appropriate NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection
where atmosphere exceeds recommended limits. Use filter with NIOSH
classification N-100, or if oil/liquid aerosols are present, P-1—(42 CFR 84).
