Signs and Symptoms of Acute Exposure:
Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin.

Skin contact:
Not known, but skin contact should be avoided. Always
          practice good laboratory hygiene.

Eye contact:
Mechanical irritation is possible, other effects not known.

Ingestion:
Ingestion is unlikely but should it occur, acute symptoms
are not known. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during working
with this material. Wash hands thoroughly after working
         before eating or smoking.

Chronic Health Effects Summary:
         Not known

Conditions Aggravated by Exposure:
No known conditions are aggravated by this material.

Section 4: First Aid Measures

Take proper precautions to ensure your own health and safety before
attempting to rescue and providing first aid.

Inhalation:
If symptoms are experienced, move victim to fresh
       air, and obtain medical attention.

Eye Contact:
Wash eyes with clean low-pressure water, removing
contact lenses if possible. Then seek medical advice from
       a qualified physician.

Skin Contact:
Remove contaminated clothing, then rinse skin thorough
with soap and water to remove all traces of the substance.

Ingestion:
Rinse mouth, give plenty of water (provided the victim is
conscious) to drink and then seek qualified medical
       attention.

Section 5: Fire Fighting Measures

NFPA Rating: Not known

Flammability classification:
Not classified. However material is combustible and will
give off toxic fumes if burned in a fire.

Flash Point/Method: Not applicable

Auto-Ignition Temperature: Not known

Flammable Limits:
          Lower: Not applicable
          Upper: Not applicable

Hazardous Combustion Products:
Toxic and irritating fumes are given off of unknown composition
if burned. If the substance is heated, it will decompose
producing toxic and irritating fumes, including sulfur oxides.

Special Conditions to Avoid:
Any open flames when working with the material. Prevent dispersion
of the dust or powder. If possible, work with product in chunk
form instead of in powder form. Avoid unprotected hands, that is,
always use gloves when working with the material.

Extinguishing Media:

Water spray, dry powders, carbon dioxide

Fire Fighting Instructions:
Protective Equipment/Clothing: Wear a NIOSH approved positive
pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and firefighter
turnout gear. Prevent contact with skin and eyes.

Instructions:
Use flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.

Section 6: Accidental Release Measures

Release response:
Wear respirator, chemical safety goggles, rubber boots and
           heavy rubber gloves.

Sweep spilled substance into containers and if appropriate,
moisten first to minimize or prevent dusting and the
generation of airborne particulates. Then move to a safe
place. Do not let this chemical enter the environment.

Ventilate area and wash area of the spill after completion
           of material pick up.

Reportable Quantities:
           Contact local regulatory authorities.

Section 7: Handling and Storage

Handling:

Remove all ignition sources from material handling, transfer, and
processing areas where dust may be present. Local exhaust ventilation
should be provided in work areas. Ensure that airborne dust
concentrations are controlled within acceptable OSHA dust standards.

Storage:

Keep container dry. Store away from excessive heat and away from
strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, food and feedstuffs. Keep
container closed to prevent contamination.

Special Note:

This material is described as reacting violently with iodine
pentachloride.

Section 8: Exposure Controls and Personal Protection

Engineering Controls:
If user operations generate dust or fumes, ventilate
       area to prevent accumulation.

Personal Protection:

 Inhalation:
Use appropriate respiratory protection where atmosphere exceeds
recommended limits. Occupational exposure limits (OEL's): TLV
    (as Zn): ppm; 0.01 mg/m3 A2 (ACGIH 1996). MAK: Class III A2 (1996).

 Skin:
Protective clothing including chemical resistant gloves, such
as long sleeves or a lab coat should always be worn when working
with this material. Open shoes should not be worn either. When
handling heated materials, also be sure to use heat-resistant
    gloves, boots and face protection.

 Eye:
Always use chemical safety goggles, even for working with small
quantities, such as the loading of small chunks into a tungsten
    basket for vacuum evaporation.

 Other protective measures:
Always have safety shower and eye bath nearby. Wear dust mask.
This material is air and moisture sensitive. Store under nitrogen
and in a cool dry place.
