LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) : Not known UEL (Upper Explosive Limit) : Not known Fire Extinguishing Media: Dry Chemical, CO2, foam Special Firefighting Procedure...... Not normally necessary Unususal Fire and Explosion Hazards: Containers may build pressure at elevated temperature. If exposed to heat, if possible, containers should be cooled with a water spray. Firefighting Procedure: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Stable: Yes Hazardous Polymerization: Does not occur. Hazardous Decomposition Products: CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Conditions to avoid: Heat, Contact with ignition source. Materials to avoid: Oxidizing materials. Store away from all ignition sources.
Spill Response: A "spill" could only occur if a container was punctured. While there would be an immediate release of the contents, because of the vapor pressure, the volatiles would evaporate almost immediately, hence there would be nothing left to "clean up". Disposal considerations: Because of the above, there would be nothing left to dispose of except for the now completely empty and depressurized aerosol cans which could be discarded as any other non-hazardous metal can. However, in the unlikely event that there is actual liquid concentrate, in any case, do not flush down sewers or drains where danger of vapors becoming ignited is present.
Potential health effects (acute and chronic): Symptoms of exposure: Not known. However, the classic symptoms of exposure to alcohol in excess would include irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract; headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, tremor, narcosis Medical condition aggravated by exposure: Not known. Routes of entry: Mainly inhalation, but to a much lesser degree via ingestion or skin contact. Carcinogenicity: The material is not listed IARC- International Agency for Research on Cancer; NTP-National Toxicology Program; OSHA-Occupational Safety and Health Administration)as cancer causing agent. Not on "Z" list either. Toxicity data: Not known.
Emergency and first aid procedures:
Get medical assistance for all cases of over-exposure.
Skin: Wash thoroughly with flowing water or shower.
Eyes: Immediately flush thoroughly with water for at
least 15 minutes.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Artificial respiration if
breathing has stopped.
Ingestion: If conscious, drink water and induce vomiting.
Immediately as directed by medical personnel.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Engineering Controls / Personal Protection: None needed.
Handling and Storage: Do not store neat heat of flame or other source of ignition (e.g. Electrical wiring or motors). We would also recommend storage away from direct sunlight in order to minimize the chances that radiant heat could cause the container temperature to rise and therefore, also the pressure to rise, shortening the shelf life of the product. Other: Store in cool dry well-ventilated area. Discard when expiration date passes. At some point after the expiration date, it is possible that the ingredients will cause a slow corrosion of the metal side-walls. We are unaware of any catastrophic failure, but what does seem to happen is that a small pin hole develops at which point there is just a very slow and stead release of the propellant and also the ingredients. The failure phenomenon is virtually identical, and of no more concern, than the failure of an old can of hair spray or shaving cream.
Component Appr % Ethyl Alcohol 60 Bell Bright is considered a "flammable liquid": UN #1170 Packing Group II DOT Class 3 Flammable LiquidShipping Name: Ethyl alcohol (DOT) and Ethanol (IATA)
Exotoxicity:
Exotoxicity is expected to be low based on the high
vapor pressure of the ingredients and very low amount
of polymer present in each can.
Environmental Fate:
No information found in our selected references.
Bioaccumulation:
Not expected to occur.
This material is meant to be used until a can is empty. The only thing possibly remaining in the can would be a small amount of polymer residue, much like would be left over from a consumer can of hair spray. Disposal then should be according to local, state and federal regulations. The aerosol can itself should be suitable for recycling.
