Applications for vacuum evaporation
Because of the lack of any porosity and high purity, and high temperature
properties, glassy carbon is the ideal material for fabrication into
evaporation boats. Its non-wetting characteristics make it the ideal
approach for certain otherwise difficult-to-evaporate materials. For
example, it does not suffer from the annoying alloying problems when
evaporating precious metals with tungsten boats (or baskets).
