Glassy carbon has higher chemical resistance for many of the commonly used
"aggressive" chemicals such as acids (HF, nitric, sulfuric, hydrochloric and
chromic), halogens (e.g. bromine), caustic alkalies, and potassium chlorate.
SPI Supplies can fabricate with the glassy carbon into beakers, crucibles,
boats which in many instances represent a much lower cost alternative to,
for example, platinum crucibles.
