The PEAK Brand of portable inspection microscopes, sometimes referred to as "shop microscopes" are used worldwide for a number of different applications, from forensic applications to evidence examination to plant quality control to validate whether a manufactured part or dimension is or is not within some specification. They are used widely in research laboratory settings, mainly for looking at items at low magnification, and which could not conveniently be put into a more powerful scanning electron microscope.
In a time when all manufacturers seem to be on a relentless quest to find lower cost manufacturing, often times with an erosion of quality, we can state that we visit the PEAK production facility in Tokyo quite frequently and while there might be some individual components manufactured elsewhere, we can state with confidence that for the most part, the products are made in Japan, featuring Japanese quality.
We are often times asked where the "names" originate. A "stand" microscope, believe it or not, came from the translation of a Japanese word that means the microscope literally "stands" on a flat surface. The "wide stand" microscopes get their name because the support stand is "wider" and is less likely to tip over. The names for the other microscopes are self-explanatory.
Although not quite as portable, the SPI Supplies Brand of stereo microscopes, including a trinocular stereo zoom microscope, might be more appropriate for one needing a microscope that could be more versatile and examine larger samples.
