The rectangular 3x magnifiers exhibit virtually no distortion; you can generally look
through these magnifiers at an angle and still not have significant distortion.
The LED light is quite bright and is noticeably brighter than what one expects from a traditional light source.
The LED bulbs do give off a white light versus the more yellowish light from an
incandescent bulb. In addition of course the LED light uses less power so that the
batteries will not only last longer but will continue to give a bright even
illumination.
SPI Supplies is one of the first to offer the very latest advances in illuminated
(or "flashlight") magnifier technology. We know that one might be skeptical, because
after all, what can be really different about a flashlight magnifier. These magnifiers are also
prized by the vision impaired since they make reading a newspaper so much easier and more convenient.
These really are different. They do not have an ordinary light bulb, but feature a light
emitting diode (LED) as its illumination source. Not only will the new LED technology
magnifiers provide a brilliant and steady source of illumination, but it has a service life
of roughly 10,000 hours. And in addition, it is small, compact and very light weight.
But this is not all: The LED source uses far less power than normal halogen bulbs
so a set of batteries last far longer. And the LED source produces a white light
rather than a more yellow light as from halogen sources which makes the object being
illuminated easier to see. New first time users of an LED source are surprised with
the increased brightness and uniform illumination.
And as if this was not enough, the fine optical quality aspheric lens have been carefully
designed to give nearly distortion-free viewing with the special blue coating index matched
to improve light transmission.
And for those who might be visually impaired, the handles are designed so that the batteries
could be readily changed by someone even if they are up in their years and don't have too
much strength to do a really firm twist.
Construction of the body:
High impact ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is used for the body of the SPI Supplies® illuminated
magnifiers so in case of dropping, hopefully (it is not guaranteed), the magnifier will make
a "bounce" back into the hands that dropped it and life will continue for the SPI Supplies® illuminated
magnifier. Note that this is a magnifier, sometimes called an inspection magnifier but it is not a measuring
magnifier, one that has the provision for taking a reticle, or scale.
This product is also sometimes referred to as a "stand" style magnifier because it "stands" on a surface on its
own, as opposed to some of the folding magnifiers that have to be held in place for viewing. A stand style
magnifier is also a hands-free instrument also since one need not hold it in order to use it.
Quality of the optics:
Don't let the low cost fool you! These are very definitely high quality optics that are offered at very attractive prices.
Power supply:
The SPI Supplies illuminated magnifiers take three Size AA batteries and the service time
expectancy on one battery change is typically around 100 hours. Batteries are not included
with the purchase of one of these magnifiers.
Still haven't found what you want?
Consider the PEAK® product line of flashlight magnifiers.
But these feature conventional illumination sources, not the new innovative SPI Supplies brand LED sources.
