SPI Series 3 Stereo Zoom Microscope

Use for dissecting and inspection, complete with trinocular head

The Series 3 Stereo Zoom Microscope features a sturdy trinocular head capable of handling a digital, video or a small film camera with an adapter that can be inserted into the camera tube of the microscope. The Pixera^® digital cameras are an excellent choice for image recording from this microscope. Its high quality, yet low cost, make it idea for laboratory, science classroom, forensic and other inspection applications. Another option is to purchase with the microscope the SPI Supplies^® Brand Eye Piece Camera, the perfect solution for school and classroom use. At this price, the entire class can have a microscope with their own digital camera.

Illumination:
Dual illumination is from two different positions, one substage (below) and the other, a ring light from above e.g. epi illumination. Both are LED (light emitting diode) type, which are the most desirable because of their much longer life (e.g. "statistically" 50,000 hours) than conventional halogen bulbs or even conventional fluorescent ring lights. If you think about it, 50,000 hours represents a source continuously operating without rest for 5+ years! We do list a replacement LED source, but it is listed more for psychological reasons than any real concern that one would have to replace the source any time soon.

It is unusual to find such high technology illumination in such a low cost stereo zoom microscope. We also are finding that for student or field use, the LED sources are more robust than halogen or fluorescent illumination sources. Teachers like the idea that they are freed from the burden of having to regularly replace light sources in their student used microscopes. These benefits are consistent with our philosophy of delivering to our customers the very highest quality and technology for the very lowest price.

Eye Pieces:
10x eye pieces come "standard" with the Series 3 stereo zoom microscope. These are "wide field" eye pieces and are manufactured with the finest quality optical glass possible. Also offered are eye pieces that we describe as "super wide field" or "SWF" design. These are not for everyone but for some applications or even some personal preferences, users prefer the SWF (super wide field) style. Optional eye pieces that are available are: 5x, 10x, 15x,and 20x. Note that the SWF style is available only in 10x and 20x. We have worked hard to keep down the additional costs associated with additional eye pieces and we would suggest considering the purchase of such additional eye pieces now in order to avoid having to meet our minimum order requirements.

Objective lens:
Zoom type objective lens that has a range of 1x to 4x comes "standard" with the Series 3 "package". We also have available optional auxiliary lens that literally "screw on" to the existing standard lens to make possible the zoom function covering different zoom ranges. Such auxiliary lenses are available as 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.5x, and 2x. The installation of a 2x auxiliary lens permits a zoom function of 2x to 8x. A 0.5x auxiliary lens, reduces the zoom function range to 0.5x to 2x.

Imaging:
The microscope produces a sharp stereo image over a wide field of view. It has a 45° inclined and 360° rotating trinocular head with locked-in eyepieces. The left ocular-tube has a ± 5dp diopter adjustment.

Ancillary items:
As part of the microscope "package" there is a white/black working plate, 94.5 mm diameter and a frosted glass working plate that is of the same diameter. Also there is a focus tension wrench, eye glass guards and heavy duty dust cover.
