SPI Supplies Recycling Program

SPI Supplies takes what we believe to be a unique approach, one not found elsewhere in the microscopy and microanalysis community. We offer a two level program of recycling and reuse of diamond knives:

• Conventional resharpening of "used" knives

SPI Supplies will resharpen any diamond knife, so long as it is a knife from either SPI Supplies or any of the other reputable manufacturers, bringing the old knife back to its original "new" state provided the knife is resharpenable (as most knives are). Generally speaking, the cost of resharpening is slightly less than one half the price of a brand new knife.


• Exchange used knives for one free resharpening

SPI Supplies recognizes that in some laboratories, there has been an accumulation of "used" diamond knives, that over the years, knives were not resharpened, and new ones were always purchased when needed. This situation tends to prevail in the laboratories of certain foreign countries where the customs clearance and shipment back to the USA tend to reduce the effective savings. We have encountered laboratories where the bureaucracy associated with the shipment of diamond knife off-site for resharpening also tends to render the possibility of resharpening diamond knives impractical.

Therefore, SPI has a program by which a customer, in such a situation, can return ten diamond knives of any manufacturer, and SPI will resharpen the one designated by the customer back to the specification that knife had when it was new and ship this this resharpened knife back to the customer, shipping costs prepaid. We can only accept knifes for this offer from major manufacturers such as SPI Supplies, DDK, Microstar, Diatome and Drukker.

Note: SPI Supplies has the right to suspend this offer, either temporarily or indefinitely, at any time should our own stock of resharpened knives become imbalanced.


• Taking advantage of either program:

You will need to complete our Return Authorization form to receive an RA # from SPI Supplies before returning any knives as part of either part of this program. Then, when you hear back from SPI, you will also be receiving instructions for the return of the knives and how to send them. For shipments from outside the USA, it is extremely important that these instructions be followed exactly, because if customs duties are assessed on the knives coming into the USA, such charges will be for the account of the customer, not for SPI Supplies.
