For the making of glass knives for histology (e.g. thick sections)

Introduction:
Historically, those working with the microtomy of tissue samples have referred to two different types of sections: "Thin sections" when transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is contemplated and "thick" sections when only light microscopy (LM) is contemplated. The Ralph knife maker has been designed for the making of "thick" sections, sometimes called "histology" sections but in any case, this type of section is far too thick for the penetration of a conventional TEM beam. For making knives for thin sections, we would recommend use of the Messer™ Knife Maker Model Type C.

Selection of the glass:
All microtome knife glass is not created equal! While the glass strips used in the Ralph knife maker need not have quite the precision needed for glass strips being used to make ultramicrotome glass knives, the edges still must be sufficiently precise to experience minimum knife wastage. Products offered:
Two versions of the product are offered, one for making 25.4 mm knives and another for making 38 mm knives. Note that each knife maker makes that one size uniquely and the 38 mm maker can make only 38 mm wide knives.
