SPI-DRY Critical Point Dryers
Replacement of the bonded (Dowty) seals
Replacing the seal is really very easy.
Once the CPD is vented and brought to atmosphere, it is disconnected from
the gas tank (bottle in some countries) and the body of the instrument is
put on its side. This should be done only on a soft kind of surface and
never on a hard lab bench. We recommend a stack of layers of
SPI-Wipers, lint free cotton wipers.
Next, unscrew the stem assembly using a 1" AF wrench (spanner in some
countries) on the
large nut that secures the stem to the CPD chamber. This may be fairly
tight, so some patience might be required to get it to turn. But once it is
removed, the Dowty seal will be in clear view and it can then be removed
from its recessed space and the new one installed.
Then screw the stem assembly back on and tighten up all the connections.
And the CPD unit should be good as new for another hundred years of faithful
operation......!
