SPI Folding Grids
Sometimes called clam style, this is the ideal grid system to "sandwich"
a variety of different kinds of samples, from metallurgical foiled samples,
to fragile freeze fracture replicas
These grids are used for securing samples that tend to curl up or fly off in
the presence of the electron beam. While they first gained popularity some
years ago for the holding in place metallurgically foiled samples, they now
are used for a variety of different fragile samples, from those that have
been ion milled to replicas from freeze fracturing runs. The folding grids
come under a large variety of different names: "oyster grids", "double
grids", in addition to "clam style" and of course, "folding grids".
Note these advantages:
- All 3.05 mm diameter width with solid border for easy handling.
- Smooth grid bars for greater section stability.
- Excellent dull/shiny side discrimination
