Beryllium Half Ring Grids
SPI Supplies beryllium grids have long been recognized as the standard for beryllium TEM grids in the world. The SPI Supplies Brand of beryllium grids has long been the source of beryllium grids offered by some of the leading column instrument manufacturers and are also used by many of the world's leading electron microscope users.

With the advent of specialized techniques, such as Tri-Pod polishing, FIB, and ion milling, at times there is the need to use support rings that in addition to exhibiting low etching rates in the presence of an ion beam, but also have an absence of x-ray peaks that would interfere with EDS analysis and also exhibit low Bremsstrahlung background radiation characteristics.

The "starting material" is our SPI #412BG-AB Beryllium Slot Grid which has literally been cut in half (therefore the designation "half grid") and then high temperature annealed to repair any damaged caused to the beryllium grid during the cutting process. The half grids are 25 µm thick.

We would recommend anyone contemplating the use of beryllium should be familiar with some basic safety concepts about beryllium and the safe use of beryllium in the electron microscope laboratory. Many researchers safely use Be every day but at the same time, it is important to appreciate the safety risks. If you have the need for a low milling rate material but are not so concerned about the presence of x-rays then consider as an alternative the SPI Supplies Brand Moly half rings.

Packaging:
The half grids are sold in lots of ten and are packaged in a grid vial.
